We just had our first pendant-making class at Upsi

We just had our first pendant-making class at Upside last week. Ryan from @gearyandhydedesign teaches his technique for laser cutting acrylic and gluing pieces together to make colorful necklaces. Students can dig in a bin of precut pieces, or bring their own ideas to design and cut in minutes.

Classes last three hours, and are a remarkably satisfying way to spend an evening. Go to upside.art/learn if you're interested in joining the next session!

Come out this Saturday to experience Waylon Bradley’s Artist Spotlight @Upside!!
🎨🎨

Specializing in abstract paintings, Bradley’s creations are used as a vessel meant to inspire art patrons through the lens of a Black abstract artistic style by using bold and bright colors. “As someone raised in the bible belt there were a lot of limitations, expectations, and notions put upon me,” he said. Growing up as a sports athlete nearly forced him to follow a conventional career path athletes typically go down. Bradley knew that predetermined path wasn’t for him. So, he took a more creative approach to life. “My interest in art was an act of rebellion…going through the experience of not feeling whole unless I created art.”

Upside is hosting a jewelry-making workshop with Resident Artist Ryan Montgomery of Geary and Hyde Design on Wednesday, March 26. We will provide materials and hardware to create custom-crafted wearable artwork. Ryan will be cutting acrylic and wood components on our 150 watt Laguna Laser that can be assembled as necklaces, earrings and more. Come and make a unique piece of artwork to wear home or give as a gift. We’ll show you how to make unique jewelry while also introducing you to the possibilities of making your own laser cut masterpieces.

Time: 6pm - 9pm

Congratulations to all of the artists--probably 400 or so--who submitted full proposals for Black Rock City Honoraria last month. We're now all waiting to hear back on who will be selected, probably in early March.

This render is from a piece submitted by Upside resident, @dudesaur, in collaboration with @lookinguparts. It is called Namaskaram and might sit at the keyhole of BRC in 2025 if selected.
